Installing the Virtual ViewX Server

You can install the Virtual ViewX (Web) server on any server computer that meets the recommended specifications; this includes installing the server on a supported 64-bit operating system (see 64-Bit).

Virtual ViewX is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards. We strongly recommend that you install the Virtual ViewX server on a different machine to the Geo SCADA Expert server. This is to avoid potential performance issues due to the number of resources that each application uses.

If you do install Geo SCADA Expert and Virtual ViewX on the same machine, both applications must have the same version and build number. This is because the applications share some resources.

In order to run Virtual ViewX, all Geo SCADA Expert servers must be running Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards; they cannot be running older versions of the software, or be set to emulate older versions.

You can use the Geo SCADA Expert DVD to install the Virtual ViewX server. You will configure the basic settings that required for IIS during the installation process.

To install the Virtual ViewX server:

  1. Run the Geo SCADA Expert Installer and select the Install Virtual ViewX Server option. The Virtual ViewX Server Setup Wizard provides a series of ‘pages’ that guide you through the installation process.
  2. Use the various ‘pages’ of the Setup Wizard to make selections relating to the Virtual ViewX Server installation.
  3. License your Virtual ViewX Installation.
  4. Ensure that the settings on the Virtual ViewX Manager application are configured appropriately (see Working with the Virtual ViewX Manager in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Virtual ViewX System Configuration).
  5. Set up connections to your Geo SCADA Expert system (see Configure a Virtual ViewX Server Connection to the Geo SCADA Expert Server in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Virtual ViewX System Configuration).
NOTICE

INABILITY TO RUN Virtual ViewX

Do not delete, or change the password of, the VVXLocalUser that is created automatically in Windows when Virtual ViewX is installed on the Virtual ViewX server. This user account is required to run the ViewX processes on that server machine. For more information, see User Account Created Automatically on the Virtual ViewX Server Machine.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in inoperable equipment.
