Configure SE RPC Devices in Geo SCADA Expert

On a Geo SCADA Expert system, you configure the Geo SCADA Expert database so that entries in the database correspond to the plant and measuring instruments on your system. This section summarizes the database items that you need to configure to represent the Schneider Electric rod pump controllers on your system.

In order to represent such devices, both the Advanced Modbus Driver and the Schneider Electric Rod Pump Controller extension component have to be installed and running on the Geo SCADA Expert servers on your system (see Confirm that the SE RPC Server Component is Installed). When the driver is first installed, a system administrator needs to define the server settings for the driver (see Configuring Advanced Modbus Server Settings in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver).

When you configure Schneider Electric Rod Pump Controller (SE RPC) items in the Geo SCADA Expert database, many of the settings for those items need to correspond to the settings of the relevant Schneider Electric rod pump controllers on your system. Some settings are either fixed (incorporated into the design of the rod pump controller), or are configured by an engineer. You need to have access to, or an understanding of, the settings of the Schneider Electric rod pump controllers on your system before you can configure the SE RPC database items successfully. For instance, you need to specify the Modbus address of each Schneider Electric rod pump controller on your system.

You also need to be aware of which optional features are required for each SE RPC item. These features include:

You can also use core Geo SCADA Expert features with SE RPC database items, including Lists, Actions, and Mimics. For actions that are specific to the SE Rod Pump Controller driver, see Actions that are Specific to the SE RPC Driver . For further information on actions and for details on Lists and Mimics, see the core documentation.

In order for Geo SCADA Expert to retrieve rod pump data from Schneider Electric rod pump controllers, you need to configure:

  1. An Advanced Modbus Channel to represent each communication connection between a Schneider Electric rod pump controller and the Geo SCADA Expert server (see Configuring an Advanced Modbus Channel in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver).

With a Direct channel, use the fields within the Scan Groups section of the Scan Parameters tab to specify the frequency with which current data is updated in Geo SCADA Expert (see Define Intervals for Timed Current Data Updates in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers). For Generic Advanced Modbus points associated with SE RPC devices, the Scan Group interval should be a multiple of the points’ Retrieval Interval rate (see Configure Common Point Properties in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver).

  2. An Advanced Modbus Outstation Set to define each collection of Schneider Electric rod pump controllers (see Configuring an Advanced Modbus Set in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver).
  3. An SE RPC Outstation to represent each Schneider Electric rod pump controller with which Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate (see Configuring SE Rod Pump Controllers).
  4. A Dynacard Store for each location at the well for which Geo SCADA Expert is to store rod pump readings for a controller (see Dynacard Stores in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers).

On the SE RPC driver, each controller supports up to four Dynacard Stores, to store the different types of dynacard data.

  5. A Dynagraph for each type of dynacard data that users are to view as a plot (see Dynagraphs in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers). For example, one Dynagraph to show the Last Stroke measurements, and another Dynagraph to show the latest Shutdown measurements of a particular rod pump.

You can configure multiple Dynagraphs per type of dynacard. For example, to provide users with different views of the dynacard data.

  6. A Generic Advanced Modbus Point of the appropriate type for each item of current non-dynacard data that Geo SCADA Expert is to retrieve from a Schneider Electric rod pump controller (see Points Used on Generic Modbus Controllers in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver).
  7. An SE RPC Point of the appropriate type for each item of historic data that Geo SCADA Expert is to retrieve from a Schneider Electric rod pump controller (see Points Used on SE Rod Pump Controllers). For example, an SE RPC Analog Input Point to measure a rod pump’s runtime history.

To add an SE RPC item (such as an outstation or point) to the database, select the appropriate entry from the Schneider Electric Rod Pump Controller branch of the Advanced Modbus menu. The Advanced Modbus menu is one of the driver options that is available from the context sensitive menu that you use when you Add an Item to the Database.

To minimize the time that it takes to configure the required SE RPC items, you may want to configure them in the order listed above, as set configuration requires you to specify a channel, and controller (outstation) configuration requires you to specify a set, and so on.
