About Map Markers
Map Markers identify the geographic location of database items on a Geo SCADA Expert map. For example, a Map Marker might display the location of an outstation (see Displaying the Geographic Location of a Database Item) or track the location of engineers (see Use the Location Tab to Specify an Item's Geographic Coordinates).
A typical Map Marker display is shown below:
In Geo SCADA Expert there are four different types of Map Marker symbol: circle, triangle, square and diamond. By default:
- Circle—This symbol indicates the marker was displayed as a result of a Display On Map request or when a user clicked on a hyperlink that contained a query in a Mimic (see Display On Map in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to ViewX and Virtual ViewX Clients, and see Creating a Hyperlink to a Map in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Mimics).
- Triangle, Square, Diamond—These symbols indicate that the marker was displayed as a result of a User Query (see Configuring a User Query in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration and see Associating User Queries with a Map Set). The same symbol may be associated with more than one User Query if there are more than three User Queries on a Geo SCADA Expert map, or if configured to do so in the User Query.
The illustration above shows the circle marker.
A Map Marker consists of two parts. The outer part of the Map Marker symbol shows the background color of the database item and the inner part shows the foreground color (see System Colors and see System Color Priorities in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration). In addition, if the foreground color is set to 'Flash' then the inner part of the shape will blink on and off. For more about the Flash setting, see Use the Color Palette to Define a Custom System Color in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration. You can optionally include attributes in a User Query to specify the shape and size of the Map Marker symbol. You can also specify whether any custom text appears on, or close to, the Map Marker symbol.
ToolTip
You can place the cursor over a Map Marker in order to display a ToolTip. By default this shows the name of the database item to which the Map Marker relates. You can customize the ToolTip to display other information instead (see Designing Queries for GIS Map Markers).
Left-Click Action
If you click on a Map Marker, by default Geo SCADA Expert will display one of the following:
-
Alarm View (if one is associated with the database item to which the Map Marker relates)
-
Help View (if one is associated with the database item to which the Map Marker relates)
-
Alarms List (if alarms can be raised on the database item to which the Map Marker relates)
-
Events List (filtered to just show entries that are associated with the database item to which the Map Marker relates).
Geo SCADA Expert performs one action from the above list (in the order shown above), depending on the configuration of the database item to which the Map Marker relates. For example, if a Help View is configured, but not an Alarm View, then the item's Help View is displayed. Likewise, if the item has neither an Alarm View or Help View configured, then the Alarms List is displayed if alarms can be raised on the database item, otherwise the Events List is displayed.
You can customize the left-click action so that Geo SCADA Expert instead performs one of the options that would be available from the database item's full context-sensitive menu (see Customize the Click Action on a Map Marker).
Right-Click Action
If you right-click on a Map Marker, Geo SCADA Expert will display a menu of standard actions for the database item (see Object Menu and see Object Menu Options in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to ViewX and Virtual ViewX Clients).
