Points Used on IEC 60870-5 Outstations
Throughout the Geo SCADA Expert documentation suite ‘information objects’—the objects that can be monitored or controlled on an outstation—are referred to as ‘points’. You create and configure different types of point in Geo SCADA Expert, to represent the different types of information object on each outstation.
IEC 60870-5 outstations support a combination of these point types:
- IEC 60870-5 Analog Input Point—see Configuring Analog Points
- IEC 60870-5 Analog Output Point—see Configuring Analog Points
- IEC 60870-5 Digital Input Point—see Configuring Digital Points
- IEC 60870-5 Digital Output Point—see Configuring Digital Points
Within Geo SCADA Expert you need to configure one point of the appropriate type per point on an IEC 60870-5 outstation. You configure the properties of each point using the appropriate IEC 60870-5 Point Form. Each Form has several tabs. For information on configuring each type of point, see the references above and also see the information in the rest of this section. This includes information on how to:
- Configure Common IEC 60870-5 Point Properties
- Specify how Geo SCADA Expert Interprets an Input Point’s Cause of Transmission
- Specify the Type of Point Data that Geo SCADA Expert is to Store Historically
- Configure the Common IEC 60870-5 Point Control Properties of Digital and Analog Output Points.
For information on the minimal amount of configuration that you can undertake to produce a functional IEC 60870-5 point in Geo SCADA Expert, see Minimum Configuration.
If an outstation supports counter data, map that data to IEC 60870-5 Analog Point(s) in the Geo SCADA Expert database, in order to use that data within Geo SCADA Expert(see Configuring Analog Points).
For general information on creating a point and displaying a Point Form, see Configuring a Point in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Point Configuration.
