Configuring Lufkin SAMS Controllers
The Lufkin SAMS driver is designed to allow Geo SCADA Expert to interface with the SAM series of Lufkin rod pump controllers. The controllers are represented by outstation items in the Geo SCADA Expert database.
The Lufkin SAMS driver supports these types of controller (outstation):
- Lufkin SAMS Direct Outstation—to represent a rod pump controller that is directly connected to the Geo SCADA Expert server.
Depending on the system setup, a Direct controller can belong to a Direct or Switched Outstation Set.
- Lufkin SAMS PSTN Outstation—to represent a rod pump controller that can communicate with the server using a dial-up modem.
- Lufkin SAMS Shared Outstation—to represent a rod pump controller that is directly connected to the Geo SCADA Expert server, and that can communicate with the server using either of two channels. Each controller in a Shared Set can communicate via either channel.
If your database structure is ‘modular’ and Group Templates are used to store ‘model’ Lufkin SAMS configuration, in addition to the above types of controller, you can add this driver-specific ‘abstract’ controller item to your Group Templates:
- Lufkin SAMS Abstract Outstation—Converts to any of the Lufkin SAMS Outstation items listed above.
You can only add Abstract Items to Group Templates. The abstract items appear as additional driver-specific entries when you display the context sensitive menu from a Group Template. As with other abstract items, in order to represent a ‘real’ controller, you need to convert the abstract items into the required type of controller (outstation) within the Group Instances that reference the Group Template. For more information, see Add an Abstract Item to a Group Template in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration.
You specify each controller’s properties using the fields on the appropriate Lufkin SAMS Outstation Form.
Each Lufkin SAMS Outstation Form has several tabs.
Use the Lufkin SAMS tab to:
- Specify the Controller Address.
- Specify Whether Geo SCADA ExpertSets the Controller’s Clock.
- Specify the Gauge Off Time.
- Specify the Dynacard Stores that Store the Rod Pump Data.
- Define the Severity of Lufkin SAMS Controller Events.
- Define the Data Retrieval Intervals (see Define the Data Retrieval Intervals in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver). The Retrieval Intervals determine the frequency with which Geo SCADA Expert retrieves current point data from the controller. You use Generic Advanced Modbus points to process the retrieved current data (see Points Used on Lufkin SAMS Controllers).
- Specify how any Scanning Gaps are Handled (see Specify how any Scanning Gaps are Handled in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver).
- Define the Dynacard Poll Interval. You use Dynacard Stores to store the dynamometer data (see Specify the Dynacard Stores that Store the Rod Pump Data),
- Define the Historic Data Poll Interval. You use Lufkin SAMS points to process the retrieved historic data (see Points Used on Lufkin SAMS Controllers).
- Specify any Local Pre and Post Amble Message Settings (see Define any Pre- and Post-Ambles for an Individual Outstation in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Advanced Drivers).
For information on the other tabs, see Configuring a Generic Modbus Controller in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the Advanced Modbus Driver.
